The Cumilla Development Authority has halted construction of four buildings in Cumilla city for allegedly violating building laws and construction regulations.

The authority launched the drive on Sunday morning and also sought approval documents from the owners of four other buildings, said its Chairman Udbatul Bari Abu.

He said notices had been issued to the four buildings, ordering their owners to stop construction. Legal action will be taken if they fail to produce valid approval documents.

Construction was halted at Silver Ali Mansion and Ibrahim Kazi Tower on Badurtala Road in Kandirpar, Noorjahan Trade Centre, and Alam Villa of Al Amin Housing Ltd in Ramghat.

The authority also issued notices to Latif Kunja of Delmon Developers, Silver Shafiul Tower and Kawsar Garden at Foujdari Mor, asking their owners to submit approval documents.

Authorized Officer Engineer Md Siriful Haque said inspectors found several irregularities, including a lack of approval documents, inadequate access routes, insufficient parking space and setbacks, and staircases and boundary walls extending onto footpaths.

Chairman Udbatul Bari Abu said cooperation from building owners, developers and other stakeholders was essential to making Cumilla a safer, more organised and liveable city.
