A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Faisal Karim Masud, an accused in the murder case of Hadi, who is currently detained in India.
Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir issued the order on Monday against Faisal and his wife, Shaheda Parvin Samia, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the matter. The application was filed by ACC Assistant Director Md Saifur Rahman.
According to the application, the ACC is investigating allegations of transactions involving Tk127 crore through the bank accounts of Faisal Karim and people linked to him.
The ACC said it had received information suggesting that the accused could flee abroad and that a travel ban was necessary to ensure a proper investigation.
Indian police said they arrested Faisal and his alleged associate Alamgir Hossain in Bangaon, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, on March 7. Faisal has remained detained in India since then.
Hadi, who rose to prominence during the July uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League, had announced his intention to contest the 13th parliamentary election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8.
He was shot in the Bijoynagar area on December 12 last year while campaigning. An attacker riding pillion on a moving motorcycle opened fire at Hadi, who was travelling in a rickshaw.
Critically injured, Hadi was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Evercare Hospital Dhaka for surgery.
Two days later, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for further treatment. He died there on December 18.
Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Zaber, member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed an attempted murder case on December 14. The charge was later amended to murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
After initially being investigated by police, the case was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB).
Following its investigation, the DB submitted a charge sheet on January 6 against 17 people, including former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and former Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud.
