Police have arrested three men in Narayanganj’s Fatullah for allegedly posing as members of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and intelligence police to deceive and extort people.
Police said they had received several complaints about the group’s activities in the area and launched an operation to identify and apprehend its members.
The three suspects were arrested from the Bhuighar area of Fatullah early Thursday.
Police also recovered fake DGFI identity cards and walkie-talkies from their possession.
Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Alam said police received information at around 3am on Thursday (September 3) that several suspicious individuals were gathered in front of the seventh floor of Bismillah Tower near the Sahebpara Panchayat intersection in Bhuighar.
When police arrived and attempted to detain them, the suspects allegedly tried to flee.
During questioning, their statements appeared inconsistent, prompting officers to ask for identification. They failed to produce valid identity documents, police said.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of the fake DGFI identity cards and walkie-talkies.
The arrested men were identified as Raihan Mahabub Alam, 36, of Bajra village in Akkelpur, Joypurhat; Mohammad Saddam Gazi, 30, of Rahim Market area in Sanarpar, Siddhirganj; and Nasir Hossain, 35, of Bhuighar East Para in Fatullah.
Police said legal proceedings against the three suspects were underway.
