Police have arrested six people in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari for allegedly defrauding people with fake visas.
The suspects were arrested early Saturday near Mukta Cold Storage in the Panial Pukur area. Police also seized two passports, four mobile phones and a microbus from their possession.
The arrested men are Sahabul Islam, 25; Saju Mia, 28; Ajinur Rahman, 24; Elias Mia, 25; Sajib Mia, 26; and Safiul Islam, 24.
Police said the suspects had allegedly been running a visa fraud operation from their homes for a long time, using fake visas for different countries to deceive job and migration seekers.
On Friday, they allegedly collected the passports of two people from Jashore, promising to send them to Australia, and were taking them home in a microbus when police intercepted the vehicle.
Kishoreganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Gafur said evidence of visa fraud through mobile phones and online gambling had been found against the suspects.
A case has been filed against them and they were sent to court, he added.
