The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 is set to deliver its verdict on Tuesday in a crimes against humanity case against former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu over the killing of six people in Kushtia during the 2024 July Mass Uprising.
The verdict, scheduled for June 30, will mark one of the tribunal’s key rulings related to alleged atrocities committed during the July-August uprising.
On June 22, ICT-2 fixed Tuesday for delivering the judgment after completing all legal proceedings in the case.
Earlier, on May 14, the three-member tribunal kept the case on CAV (curia advisari vult), meaning the judgment would be pronounced on a later date, following the conclusion of arguments by both the prosecution and the defence.
Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam and Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed presented arguments on behalf of the prosecution, while senior advocate Mansurul Haque Chowdhury represented Inu.
The tribunal had formally indicted Hasanul Haque Inu on November 2, 2025, in connection with the killings of six people in Kushtia during the July-August 2024 Mass Uprising.
The ICT framed eight specific charges against the former minister, accusing him of crimes against humanity in relation to the deadly incidents.
The prosecution alleged that Inu, in his capacity as a senior political leader at the time, bore responsibility for the crimes committed during the suppression of protesters. The defence, however, denied the allegations and sought his acquittal.
Tuesday’s verdict is expected to determine whether the tribunal finds the former minister guilty of the charges and, if so, the sentence to be imposed under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act.
