Police have shown Md Siam, 19, arrested in the murder case of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Opritom in Cumilla, for allegedly concealing information about the killing despite knowing about it.
Police said Siam was not directly involved in the murder. His arrest brings the total number of people arrested in the case to four.
Siam was sent to a Cumilla court on Sunday afternoon and later taken to Cumilla Central Jail along with the other accused.
According to district police, the alleged mastermind, Saiful Islam alias Tuhin, spent around 1.5 hours with Siam after killing Opritom on Friday night and told him details of the murder. Although Siam knew about the incident, he did not inform police, officials said.
Cumilla district police media officer and Additional Superintendent of Police Md Lutfur Rahman confirmed the matter on Sunday night.
He said two juvenile suspects who were directly involved in the killing were being sent to the Tongi Child Development Centre in Gazipur following a court order.
Investigation Officer SI Md Saiful Islam of Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station said all four accused had been handed over to the Cumilla jail authorities. The two juveniles, aged 15 and 16, will be sent to the child development centre, while the other two will remain in Cumilla Central Jail.
Police said Siam, a resident of Sudhanyapur (Noabari) in Sadar Dakshin, was a friend of Tuhin. He was initially detained as a suspect after police learned that Tuhin had told him about the killing. He was later shown arrested in the case.
The two juveniles have reportedly confessed to the murder before a court. Tuhin, 19, the prime accused, is currently in Cumilla Central Jail.
Opritom went missing on Friday after leaving his rented home in the Gandhamati area of Kotbari, Cumilla. His body was recovered the following afternoon from a forested area in Lalmai Hills in Sananda village of Bijoypur union, Sadar Dakshin.
Opritom was a seventh-grade student at Cumilla Border Guard Public School.
