The Crime Suppression Force’s SRB-6 has arrested the two principal accused in the murder of Sheikh Ahad Ahmed Itu in Rampal within 24 hours of the case being filed.
A team from SRB-6’s headquarters company arrested the two while they were in hiding in the Laripara area of Phultala in Khulna early Tuesday.
The arrested men were identified as Baki Billah Sheikh, 47, and Masum Billah Sheikh, 52, sons of Jafar Sheikh of Kismat Chanditala village in Rampal, Bagerhat. They are respectively the first and second named accused in the case.
The two were handed over to Rampal Police Station for further legal action. SRB-6 said operations were continuing to arrest the other accused.
According to SRB sources, the two sides had been involved in a longstanding dispute over fish enclosures and residential land.
On September 20, the accused allegedly went to the front of the complainant’s house in Chanditala village and started hurling abuses. When the complainant’s younger brother, Sheikh Ahad Ahmed Itu, came out of the house, the accused allegedly attacked him with sticks and sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured before fleeing.
He was taken to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother, Sheikh Rahat, filed a murder case with Rampal Police Station.
SRB-6 launched a shadow investigation immediately after the incident and stepped up intelligence surveillance. Acting on a tip-off, its team later conducted a raid in Phultala and arrested the two suspects.
