Police have arrested six people for allegedly attacking a building in Dhaka’s Adabor with machetes and other sharp weapons amid a land dispute and attempting to take control of the property.
Adabor Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahidul Islam said the suspects were arrested during overnight raids in different parts of Dhaka on Sunday. Five were brought to the police station, while another was arrested outside Dhaka and was being brought to the capital.
The suspects’ identities were not immediately disclosed.
On Saturday morning, a group of around 20–25 people allegedly vandalised the gate, windows and CCTV cameras of a house on Road 6 of the first project of Shyamoli Housing in the Shekhertek area of Adabor.
Relatives of the building owner alleged that a local man, identified as Khorshed Alam, had taken control of the building in a similar manner after August 5, 2024. Following legal proceedings with the court and police, the owners regained possession of the property on March 12.
The relatives also alleged that they called the national emergency service 999 during the attack but did not receive immediate police assistance.
The incident was captured on another CCTV camera, and footage later circulated on social media. The video shows a masked man talking on a mobile phone before a group of young men carrying weapons arrive and smash three CCTV cameras, windows and the main gate with sharp weapons.
The victim later filed a written complaint with Adabor Police Station, following which police arrested the six suspects.
