The High Court has granted six months’ bail to Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, the prime accused arrested in the murder case over the killing of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Sohag, 39, outside Mitford Hospital in the capital.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Syed Hasan Zubair passed the order, along with a rule, on September 28.

However, Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal said on Thursday that the state would file a leave-to-appeal petition seeking a stay on the bail order.

On July 9, 2025, Lal Chand was brutally beaten to death with stones by a group of people on a busy road in front of Mitford Hospital, officially known as Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital.

The following day, his sister Manjuara Begum filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station in Dhaka.

The case named 19 people and accused another 15 to 20 unidentified individuals.

On July 12, the Dhaka First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court ordered the framing of charges against 21 accused in the case. The order was passed by acting judge Mossaddeq Minhaj.
