DMP arrests 480 in anti-crime drive

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 480 people in the capital over the past 24 hours as part of anti-crime and anti-drug operations, filing 51 cases during the period.

Police also recovered cannabis, yaba tablets, phensedyl, mobile phones, cash and a machete during the drives.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Akter Hossain confirmed the information on Friday.

Of those arrested, 21 were detained under the Ramna division, 41 under Lalbagh, 71 under Wari, 49 under Motijheel, 90 under Tejgaon, 124 under Mirpur, 32 under Gulshan and 51 under Uttara. One person was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB).

The operation yielded 1.16kg of cannabis, 2,237 yaba tablets, 20 bottles of phensedyl, eight mobile phones, a machete and Tk35,000 in cash. Police also rescued one victim.

Akter Hossain said the arrests were made during regular drives across different police stations in the capital.

Legal proceedings against the arrestees are under way, he added.
