Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has called for modern, adaptive and professional policing to address the rapidly evolving security challenges of the digital age.
He made the remarks as chief guest at the inauguration of the 10th batch (2024–25 session) of the Master of Applied Criminology and Police Management (MSCPM) programme at the Police Staff College Bangladesh.
The IGP said modern knowledge, innovative thinking and professional expertise are essential to tackling complex threats, including cybercrime, organised crime, terrorism, financial and environmental crimes, misinformation and the misuse of emerging technologies.
He said the success of modern policing should be measured not only by crime control and arrests but also by its ability to earn public trust, uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, ensure professional integrity and accountability, and provide quality public services.
Fakir also highlighted the importance of research, evidence-based analysis and innovative thinking in making effective decisions and developing practical solutions to emerging challenges.
He said the Police Staff College Bangladesh has been playing a vital role in strengthening the professional capacity of the Bangladesh Police and other government institutions through advanced police education, leadership development and research.
The programme was welcomed by Director (Academic) Dr Sarker Omar Faroque and chaired by Rector Kazi Md Fazlul Karim, who expressed hope for the success of the 10th MSCPM batch and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to becoming a centre of excellence in police education, research and professional leadership.
The 10th batch comprises 50 participants from Bangladesh Police, the Armed Forces, the medical profession, the judiciary, the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and other professional institutions.
