17 more senior cops forced into retirement

The government has placed 17 more senior Bangladesh Police officers on compulsory retirement in the public interest, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.

The retired officials include three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), 11 Additional DIGs, a superintendent of police, a deputy police commissioner and other senior officers.

The Public Security Division of the Home Ministry issued the notification, signed by Senior Secretary Monjur Morshed Chowdhury, citing Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018. The order says the officers have been retired in the public interest and will receive all retirement benefits in accordance with existing rules.

The decision takes immediate effect.

Earlier, the government compulsorily retired 33 senior police officers on July 5, 17 on May 3, and 13 senior officers on April 22 under the same legal provision.
