Kathmandu: A joint delegation of senior Bangladeshi and Nepali journalists visited the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu on Thursday and exchanged views on bilateral relations, indigenous-language journalism and media cooperation.
The delegation, which had attended the recently concluded 3rd International Indigenous Language Conference 2026, was received by Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Shafiqur Rahman at Bangladesh House in Kathmandu.
During the meeting, the journalists discussed various aspects of Bangladesh-Nepal relations, as well as the recently concluded conference on indigenous-language journalism and Bangladesh’s role in promoting linguistic and cultural diversity through the media.
The conference was held in Kathmandu from August 9 to 12 as part of programmes marking World Indigenous Day on August 9. Delegates from 17 countries took part in the four-day event, which reportedly drew around 35,000 participants during the observance of World Indigenous Day.
A 13-member Bangladeshi delegation is currently in Kathmandu in connection with the conference.
The Bangladeshi delegation was led by Ziaur Rahman and included Md Abdur Rahman, Secretary General of the SAARC Journalist Forum and Senior Correspondent of The Bangladesh Post; Mustaq Ahmed Mubaraqui, Editor of The Daily Bangabani; Md Ziaur Rahman, Special Correspondent of The Daily Ajkal; Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Editor of Daily Bank Bima Arthority; Panna Zaman, Managing Editor of Daily Amar Bangla; and Md Abu Bakar Siddique, Senior Correspondent of Daily Ajker Probhat.
Nepali media representatives accompanying the Bangladeshi delegation included Nripendra Lal Shrestha, President of the National Forum of News Journalists and Editor of Lahana Media; Sunil Maharjan, Vice President of the National Forum of News Journalists; Surendra Bhakta Shrestha of Lahana Weekly; and Raju Napit of AP1 TV.
The discussions also focused on opportunities for greater cooperation between journalists and media organisations of the two neighbouring countries.
The delegates exchanged views on strengthening professional contacts, promoting indigenous and minority-language journalism, and creating greater opportunities for journalists to share experiences and best practices.
The visit was followed by a lunch hosted by the Bangladesh Embassy in honour of the visiting delegation.
The event was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Nepal.
