The government on Friday urged all print, electronic and online media outlets, as well as social media platforms, to strictly comply with the court order prohibiting the publication or broadcast of speeches and statements by ousted and fugitive former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information, the government recalled that the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on December 5, 2024, imposed a ban on the dissemination of Sheikh Hasina’s speeches.
It said that under the country’s existing laws, there are legal restrictions on broadcasting or publishing speeches, interviews, audio or video messages of a convicted fugitive.
The government requested all television channels, radio stations, newspapers, online news portals and social media platforms not to publish or broadcast, either live or recorded, any speech, statement or remarks by Sheikh Hasina.
The statement said the request was made in the interest of maintaining law and order and ensuring due respect for the court’s directive.
The government also expressed hope that all media organisations, stakeholders and citizens would uphold the law and comply fully with the court’s order.
