Dhaka: The air quality in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, remained at a ‘moderate’ level on Sunday.
According to real-time data released at 8:30 a.m. by the Switzerland-based air quality monitoring platform IQAir, Dhaka ranked 32nd among the world’s most polluted cities, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 73, indicating moderate air quality.
Meanwhile, Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities with an AQI score of 174, placing it in the ‘unhealthy’ category.
It was followed by Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with an AQI score of 158, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates with 154, Manama in Bahrain with 145, and Lahore in Pakistan with 132. The air quality in these cities is considered a significant public health concern.
According to IQAir’s AQI classification, a score between 0 and 50 is considered ‘Good’, 51 to 100 is ‘Moderate’, 101 to 150 is ‘Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups’, 151 to 200 is ‘Unhealthy’, 201 to 300 is ‘Very Unhealthy’, and 301 or above is classified as ‘Hazardous’.
