Dhaka: Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds over the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet regions. River ports in these areas have been advised to display Warning Signal No. 1.
According to the inland river port forecast issued on Sunday (August 2), valid from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm, temporary gusty or squally winds from the south or southeast at speeds of 45 to 60 km/h may sweep across the affected regions, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.
In view of the expected adverse weather conditions, the Meteorological Warning Centre has instructed the river ports in the concerned areas to hoist Warning Signal No. 1. The forecast was issued in a bulletin signed by meteorologist Md. Omar Faruk.
Meanwhile, the weather office has also forecast partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain or thundershowers in Dhaka and its adjoining areas.
In its six-hour forecast issued at 7:00 am on Sunday, the department said the sky may remain partly to temporarily cloudy, with the possibility of intermittent rain or thunderstorms during the period. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
Winds are likely to blow from the south or southeast at 10 to 15 km/h. At 6:00 am, the humidity level in Dhaka was recorded at 86 percent, while the temperature stood at 28.5 degrees Celsius. No rainfall was recorded in the capital and surrounding areas during the previous 24 hours.
