The flood situation in low-lying areas along the Kushiyara River in Sylhet is expected to improve over the next three days, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
In its latest bulletin issued today, the FFWC reported that water levels in the Surma-Kushiyara river system across the northeast have declined over the past 24 hours and are likely to continue falling in the coming days. However, the Kushiyara River is still flowing above the danger level at the Fenchuganj station in Sylhet.
The agency also noted a downward trend in water levels of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers over the last 24 hours, which is expected to persist for the next two days before stabilising for the following three days.
Meanwhile, water levels in the Ganges-Padma river system have remained steady and are forecast to stay unchanged over the next five days.
In the eastern and south-eastern regions, including Chattogram, rivers such as the Gomti, Muhuri, Feni, Selonia, Halda, Sangu, and Matamuhuri recorded a decline in water levels during the past day.
These rivers may see a slight rise over the next 24 hours before stabilising in the following two days, the bulletin added.
