HC dismisses writ challenging ICT act

The High Court on Tuesday dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Act, 1973.

The bench, comprising Justice Khizir Hayat and Justice Rezaul Karim, passed the order, declaring the writ petition not maintainable.

The petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyer Mohsin Rashid, who questioned the constitutional validity of several provisions of the ICT Act, 1973. Following a hearing, the court rejected the plea.

The International Crimes Tribunal Act was enacted in 1973 to ensure the trial of crimes against humanity committed during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War.

Over the years, various petitions have been filed challenging the constitutional validity of certain sections and provisions of the law.
