LafargeHolcim Q2 profit up 8pc to Tk 1,045m amid growth

29 July 2026 18:13 Updated: 29 July 2026 18:13

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC reported an 8% increase in Profit After Tax (PAT) for the second quarter (April–June) of 2026, reaching BDT 1,045 million. The growth came as the building materials company navigated persistent macroeconomic challenges, including high inflation and elevated energy tariffs.

According to financial figures released by the company, second-quarter revenue rose 14% year-over-year to BDT 7,397 million, compared to the same period in 2025. Operating EBIT for Q2 grew 18% to BDT 1,406 million.

The strong performance in Q2 helped buffer the company’s first-half (H1 2026) overall results. Net sales for the first six months of 2026 rose 3% to BDT 15,436 million, up from BDT 14,981 million in H1 2025. However, due to broader cost pressures earlier in the year, H1 Operating EBIT stood at BDT 2,639 million—an 11% decline compared to H1 2025—while H1 Earnings Per Share (EPS) dropped 8% to BDT 1.87 from BDT 2.03.

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh credited its second-quarter rebound to strategic pricing realignments, operational cost discipline, and increased demand for specialized building products, including Holcim Water Protect, Supercrete Plus, Holcim Coastal Guard, and Powercrete.

In addition, the company’s aggregates division registered notable volume growth and pricing momentum, pointing to the segment as a critical driver for future revenue.

“In the face of persistent inflation, elevated energy costs, and intense market pressures, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh has once again proven the strength of its strategic foundation,” said Iqbal Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh. “We have taken decisive steps to safeguard our margins against rising gas tariffs and market volatility.”

To mitigate higher traditional energy costs, the company expanded its alternative fuel initiatives through its waste management arm, Geocycle. During Q2 2026, Geocycle co-processed nearly 21,000 tons of non-recyclable waste into alternative energy to power its manufacturing operations.

Management expressed optimism for the second half of 2026, noting that while elevated energy prices and external macroeconomic volatility will remain key factors, the company expects its alternative energy efforts, product diversification, and aggregates growth to help maintain industry-leading margins.

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC was originally incorporated in 1997 as Lafarge Surma Cement Limited before rebranding to its current corporate name. Listed on both the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges since 2003, the company operates two subsidiaries in India that support its core manufacturing and supply operations in the region.
