The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a Tk 40.05 billion (Tk 4,004.60 crore) budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, with a focus on balanced urban development, drainage improvement, dengue prevention, environmental protection and better civic services without imposing new taxes on residents.
The budget was unveiled on Thursday by DSCC Administrator and Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium in Dhaka. It was approved at the corporation’s 14th board meeting on July 26.
The new budget is higher than the Tk 38.41 billion originally allocated for FY2025-26. The revised budget for the outgoing fiscal year stood at Tk 31.39 billion.
According to the budget, the total projected receipts, including the opening balance, have been set at Tk 40.05 billion. This includes an opening balance of Tk 7.31 billion, a revenue collection target of Tk 18.16 billion, and Tk 14.58 billion in development income.
On the expenditure side, the budget allocates Tk 15.60 billion for operational and capital expenses, Tk 19.04 billion for development projects, while the closing balance has been estimated at Tk 5.41 billion.
Speaking at the budget announcement, Administrator Abdus Salam said the city authority had prepared a realistic and implementable budget instead of an overly ambitious one. He said no additional taxes or increases in existing tax rates had been proposed. Instead, the corporation plans to boost its own revenue by creating new income sources while reducing unnecessary expenditures.
He said the budget prioritises balanced development across all city regions, the elimination of waterlogging, dengue control, pollution reduction, improvements to roads and traffic management, and the enhancement of public services under the vision of building a “Clean City, Green City.”
Addressing city residents, Abdus Salam said the budget represents more than an income and expenditure plan, describing it as a reflection of the trust placed in the city corporation by taxpayers. He pledged that every taka would be spent with the highest standards of transparency, accountability and efficiency for public welfare.
The administrator also sought cooperation from the government, the Local Government Division, development partners, public and private institutions, the media, civil society, the business community and residents to ensure the successful implementation of the budget.
