A 15-year-old eighth-grade schoolgirl was allegedly abducted from her home and gang-raped in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur.
The girl is currently receiving treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The incident took place at around 1:00am on Thursday (July 30) in a village under Bhashanchar Union. Local residents later detained two suspects along with a motorcycle and handed them over to police.
According to the victim’s aunt, the girl’s mother was at a hospital in Faridpur for the treatment of the victim’s grandmother. At the time of the incident, the girl was at home with her sister and younger brother.
The aunt alleged that a group of 10 to 15 people, some carrying locally made weapons, surrounded the house at around 1:00am and demanded that the door be opened. When those inside refused, the group allegedly broke a window and forced the girl out of the house.
Family members and neighbours attempted to intervene, but the group allegedly threatened them with violence, creating panic in the area.
The girl was then allegedly taken by motorcycle to a pond-side area in a neighbouring village, where three young men allegedly raped her.
Local residents said the girl was left in the courtyard of her home at around 3:00am after she became seriously ill. As the suspects attempted to flee, residents chased them and detained two people along with a motorcycle before handing them over to Sadarpur police.
The detainees were identified as Helal Mridha, 20, and Rais Shikdar, 16.
The victim said the suspects initially demanded that the door be opened. When the occupants refused, a window was broken and one person entered the house before opening the door for others.
She also alleged that some of the accused had previously harassed her while she was travelling to and from school.
Confirming that a written complaint had been received, Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police Shamsul Azam said the incident was being investigated with the highest priority.
“We have received a written complaint regarding the alleged gang rape. The matter is being investigated with utmost importance, and legal action will be taken,” he said.
