Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson Mahdi Amin has said the government will implement the July Charter as it was signed and ensure justice for those killed in the July uprising.
He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon at the BIAM Foundation auditorium in Dhaka while addressing the first conference on the July Revolution, organised by the July Revolutionary Alliance (JRA).
Mahdi Amin said the current government is committed to fulfilling the aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives during the July mass uprising—building a Bangladesh based on equality, human dignity, and social justice.
He noted that the movement envisioned a truly sovereign country where merit would be valued and discrimination eliminated. “We must work together to realise that vision,” he said.
Highlighting the human cost of the uprising, Amin said many injured people have yet to return to normal life. Some have lost their eyesight, while others have been permanently disabled and remain under treatment. He assured that the elected government stands firmly beside the injured and the families of the victims, with a commitment to providing long-term support.
He added that under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership, the government is working to build a democratic, humane, and discrimination-free Bangladesh inspired by the ideals of the July movement. However, he acknowledged that the effects of what he described as 16 years of authoritarian rule cannot be erased overnight.
Amin recalled that during the uprising, people from all political and ideological backgrounds united under a single identity—pro-Bangladesh. “We wanted a country where human rights are protected, the rule of law prevails, freedom of speech is ensured, and there are no enforced disappearances, killings, or politically motivated cases,” he said.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said efforts are ongoing to establish a just and inclusive state in line with the hopes and sacrifices of the martyrs of the July movement.
