The government has declared a nationwide public holiday on August 5 to observe July Mass Uprising Day, which was added to the official holiday calendar last year.
However, the holiday will not apply to all government employees. Those engaged in essential and emergency services will be required to remain on duty.
Officials working in sectors such as healthcare, law enforcement, firefighting, electricity, gas and water supply, ports, airports, railways, public transport, prisons and disaster management will continue their responsibilities in accordance with duty rosters set by their respective authorities.
According to the 2026 holiday schedule issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, the day falls on a Wednesday. If employees take leave on the following Thursday, many government workers could enjoy a four-day extended break.
Private sector organisations will determine their holiday arrangements based on their own policies.
