The Directorate of Prisons on Monday inaugurated a medical centre and a pathology unit at the Old Dhaka Central Jail to strengthen healthcare and welfare services for prison officials and employees.
Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Md Motaher Hossain formally inaugurated the facilities, which have been established and will be managed by the Directorate of Prisons, according to a press release.
Officials said the initiative marks an important step towards improving access to healthcare services for prison personnel.
The medical centre and pathology unit will serve officials and employees of the Directorate of Prisons, as well as prison staff from across the country who travel to Dhaka for medical treatment.
Under the new initiative, prison personnel, their spouses and children will receive pathology laboratory services free of charge. Their parents and parents-in-law will be entitled to the same services at a 50 percent discount on government-approved rates.
