Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has gifted vehicles to three individuals linked to the July uprising, aiming to support their livelihoods and long-term financial stability.
At a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Tejgaon office on Saturday (August 8), he handed over a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, two pedal rickshaws, and two battery-powered auto-rickshaws. During the event, he also inquired about the recipients’ health, family conditions, and sources of income.
Mohammad Aziz Sheikh, a second-year Social Work student at Mirpur Bangla College and a resident of Lohagara in Narail, received the CNG auto-rickshaw. Aziz, who supports his family while continuing his studies, was injured during the July uprising in Mirpur-10 and still carries 36 bullet splinters in his body. The Prime Minister encouraged him to continue his education alongside his work.
Md Gaffar from Alamdanga in Kushtia was given two pedal rickshaws. During the protests, he regularly supplied water to demonstrators in the capital’s Mohakhali area and transported injured individuals to hospitals using his own rickshaw. He said he plans to operate one rickshaw in Dhaka for his livelihood while renting out the other.
In addition, 65-year-old Asadul Haque Bishu from Gabtoli in Bogura received two battery-powered auto-rickshaws. He had been struggling financially due to a lack of employment opportunities.
The Prime Minister personally observed how the vehicles would be operated and provided guidance to ensure safe use and transport to their respective destinations.
BNP lawmaker Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh Shibli, and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon were present at the ceremony .
