Dhaka: A total of 504 people were arrested in the past 24 hours during regular drives conducted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital. During the same period, 35 cases were filed.
DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehedi disclosed the information on Sunday morning, August 9.
He said the arrests were made during operations in different police station areas of the capital, during which various evidence and narcotics were also recovered. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, he added.
According to Niaz Mehedi, 34 people were arrested by the Ramna Division, 39 by the Lalbagh Division, 55 by the Wari Division, 72 by the Motijheel Division, 66 by the Tejgaon Division, 144 by the Mirpur Division, 47 by the Gulshan Division, 40 by the Uttara Division, and seven by the Detective Branch (DB).
During the arrests, police recovered one water pump, five mobile phones, one wallet, three pieces of foil paper, one gas lighter, one Tk10 note, Tk8,750 in cash allegedly linked to drug sales, 22 rounds of live shotgun cartridges, one pair of scissors, one electric shock device, one knife, one switchgear, one hacksaw blade, 29 kilograms and 950 grams of cannabis, 225 yaba tablets, 35 grams of heroin, and 48 bottles of Eskaf syrup (phensedyl).
