Two students of Dhaka University have had their residential hall seats cancelled following allegations of homosexuality against them.

Professor Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, provost of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall at the university, told BBC Bangla that the decision to cancel the students’ seats was taken based on recommendations from an investigation committee.

The university authorities are also reviewing what further action can be taken against them, according to reports. However, the authorities had earlier said that the university’s rules and regulations contain no specific provision on the matter.

Recently, allegations of homosexuality involving two outsiders at two other residential halls of Dhaka University also sparked widespread discussion.

In one case, a student was accused of bringing an outsider to the hall for homosexual activities.

In another incident, a hall student union leader and a student were accused of engaging in homosexual activities.

The hall administration later temporarily cancelled the student union leader’s seat, although he denied the allegation.
