PM Tarique condoles Indonesia earthquake deaths

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by a devastating earthquake in Indonesia.

In a condolence message sent to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday, Tarique conveyed sympathy on behalf of the Bangladesh government and people to the Indonesian government and its people.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara province, leaving at least 38 people dead at the time of the condolence message, according to Bangladeshi reports. Later reports put the death toll at 47.

The prime minister said Bangladesh stands with Indonesia during the difficult time and is ready to provide all possible assistance and cooperation.

He also expressed condolences to the families of those killed and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and for relief and rescue operations to bring support to those affected.
