Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government is not taking into consideration a recent UN Security Council report concerning alleged Al-Qaeda activities in Bangladesh, adding that he has not yet read the report.
He made the remarks on Monday (August 17) while responding to journalists after a meeting of the committee reviewing and preparing recommendations on the report of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission, 2025, at the Finance Ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat.
A recent UN Security Council report expressed concern over Al-Qaeda activities in Bangladesh. It said the militant group was attempting to establish permanent bases and clandestine cells in the country.
Asked about the report, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “I have heard about it, but I haven’t read it. There may be some observations in it. I cannot comment without seeing it.”
“We are not taking these things into consideration, and I have not yet read the report,” he said. “As far as I have heard from newspaper reports, it contains an assumption that something like this could happen. We are not taking any action based on an assumption-driven report.”
Journalists also asked the home minister about speculation that he might be given responsibility for another ministry. In response, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “I haven’t heard any such speculation.”
