Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman has said the current government bears no responsibility whatsoever for the ongoing power crisis.
He made the remarks at an exchange meeting with the district administration and district cultural officers in Rangpur on Wednesday afternoon.
“The current government has the slightest responsibility for the power crisis. Nevertheless, the Prime Minister has been distressed by the situation on humanitarian grounds,” he said.
Dr Zahed also alleged that the previous government had sought to remain in power indefinitely through vote rigging. He said the former ruling establishment had deprived people of their right to vote and attempted to remain in power permanently.
Addressing the deputy commissioners and district cultural officers, the adviser said the officials currently working with the government had never before worked for such a government for such a long period.
He said the government’s objective was to work for the people and ensure accountability at every level of the administration.
He urged the officials to perform their duties by giving priority to the expectations and needs of the people.
