The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has held a meeting with Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister A Z M Zahid Hossain to discuss strengthening campus security, rehabilitating homeless and vagrant people, and improving skills among female students.
The meeting was held on Wednesday, with discussions focusing on coordinated measures by the university administration and relevant ministries to address the presence of homeless, destitute and vagrant people on campus.
Participants discussed forming an active monitoring team, arranging rehabilitation where necessary and taking effective measures to ensure student safety.
Security concerns around the Central Shaheed Minar and Suhrawardy Udyan areas were also discussed. DUCSU representatives highlighted problems faced by students due to drug-related activities, harassment and other crimes in and around these areas.
The meeting also discussed long-term measures to address these issues and improve security for students.
In addition, plans were discussed to provide female students with training in market-relevant skills, including computer applications, artificial intelligence, freelancing and graphic design, to enhance their career prospects.
The DUCSU delegation included Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah, Career Development Secretary Md Mazharul Islam, and Executive Members Sarba Mitra Chakma and Anas Ibn Munir.
