Ruling party MPs meet ahead of presidential election

The parliamentary party meeting of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is underway ahead of the country’s 23rd presidential election.

The meeting began at 4pm on Wednesday (August 19) in the Government Party Members’ Meeting Room at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman is presiding over the meeting.

BNP lawmakers are attending the meeting, which is being held ahead of Thursday’s presidential election.

The country’s 23rd presidential election will be held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (August 20).

The ruling BNP has nominated its Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as its presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, the Jamaat-led 11-party opposition alliance has nominated Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, Bir Bikram, as its candidate.
