Police arrested 54 people, including 29 women, during a special drive against alleged illegal and immoral activities being conducted under the cover of spa and salon businesses in the capital’s Gulshan area.
The simultaneous raids were conducted at two establishments — Hot Stone Spa and One Salon — under the jurisdiction of Gulshan Police Station on Tuesday night.
Police said the operation was launched following confidential information that the two establishments were allegedly being used as fronts for prostitution and other criminal activities.
A total of 54 people of different ages were detained during the raids. Police said legal action against those arrested was being processed.
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Daud Hossain said police would not allow any illegal or immoral activities to operate under the cover of spa centres in the Gulshan area.
He said such drives would continue regularly as part of efforts to curb criminal activities.
