A dentist who was abducted from the capital’s Kuril Bishwa Road was rescued unharmed from a deserted area in Purbachal on Wednesday night.
Hasibur Hasan, 43, was rescued from Sector 19 of Purbachal by a patrol team of the RAJUK Ansar Guard under the Dhaka Metropolitan North Zone.
Mohammad Shahiduzzaman Raju, Circle Adjutant of the Public Relations Branch at the Ansar and VDP Headquarters, confirmed the incident.
He said Hasibur was waiting by the roadside at Kuril Bishwa Road on Wednesday evening to go to Jalsiri Master Pharmacy to see patients. A man driving a white microbus offered to take him to Jalsiri and picked him up.
Shortly afterwards, the members of an abduction gang inside the vehicle tied his hands, legs, eyes and mouth. They demanded Tk 100,000 in ransom from his family and took Tk 12,000 from his mobile banking account using his Android phone.
The abductors later left him in a deserted area with his hands, eyes and mouth still tied before fleeing.
At the time, a patrol team was on duty in the area under the leadership of PC Md Siddiqur Rahman. Ansar members Hafizur Rahman, Md Sakibul, Ratan Mia and Md Zubayer heard groaning sounds and rushed towards the source.
They found Hasibur tied up and rescued him. The Ansar members later took him to a safe destination.
