Housing and Public Works State Minister Ahmmed Sohel Monzur on Saturday inspected the ongoing cleaning, environmental protection and sewage management activities at the Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara lakes in Dhaka.
As part of the inspection, the state minister visited a sewage treatment plant (STP) under construction at the Kalachandpur section of the Gulshan-Baridhara Lake. The facility, once completed, will have a treatment capacity of 200,000 litres of sewage per day.
Monzur reviewed the progress and overall condition of the project and instructed officials concerned to complete the construction work properly and as quickly as possible.
He later inspected ongoing cleaning activities at different sections of the lake near Road 18 in Banani and along Kamal Ataturk Avenue.
During the visit, the state minister enquired about the progress of environmental protection, cleanliness and sewage waste management initiatives around the lake.
He directed officials to take more effective measures to protect the lake environment, maintain cleanliness and improve sewage and waste management.
The state minister also stressed the need for regular monitoring and more effective implementation of cleaning and environmental protection activities across the Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara lake system.
Housing and Public Works Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Engineer Md Riazul Islam and senior officials of the authority were present during the inspection.
Monzur, at the end of the visit, emphasised strengthening sewage management and ensuring regular cleaning to protect the environmental health of the Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara lakes.
