Bangladesh recorded its highest daily number of dengue hospitalisations this year, with 994 patients admitted across the country in the past 24 hours. Three more patients also died from the disease during the period.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest deaths have taken this year’s dengue toll to 85. August has recorded the highest monthly death count so far, with 31 fatalities, followed by 36 in July and 13 in June.
The latest DGHS bulletin, issued on Monday (24 August), said 29,923 dengue patients have been hospitalised nationwide this year.
A total of 862 patients recovered and were discharged in the past 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 27,758.
Dhaka division reported the highest number of new admissions at 381, followed by Khulna with 215, Barishal 117, Chattogram 107, Mymensingh 71 and Rajshahi 76.
The sharp rise in hospitalisations highlights the continuing surge in dengue cases across Bangladesh.
