The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has declared that any district-based cricket association formed without its approval or recognition will not be considered a legitimate part of the country’s cricketing structure.
In a statement, the BCB said it had recently come across promotional activities by individuals and groups in different parts of the country involving the formation of district cricket associations and initiatives aimed at organising and promoting cricket.
The board clarified that it has no affiliation, approval, recognition or involvement with any such independently formed organisation. Therefore, these bodies cannot be presented or regarded as BCB-approved or recognised district cricket associations.
Citing Article 6.2 of its constitution, the BCB said it is responsible for expanding and coordinating cricket across the country and for ensuring the formation of regional and district cricket associations in accordance with the areas and organisational structure determined by the board.
Under Article 6.4, the BCB is also empowered to recognise, regulate and oversee affiliated cricket associations, as well as regional and district cricket bodies established under its authority.
The board further referred to Article 9.1(b), which states that a district cricket association must be formed in accordance with BCB-approved policies and regulations. Such associations are also required to regularly participate in national cricket competitions, including the National Cricket League, National Cricket Championship and youth and age-group tournaments, while organising regular cricket leagues within their respective districts.
The constitution also provides that where a district cricket association has not yet developed the necessary administrative and infrastructure facilities, the respective District Sports Association will be considered the district cricket body.
The BCB said that, under these constitutional provisions, only associations, organisations or committees formed with BCB recognition or approval and in compliance with its constitution, policies and regulations will be recognised as District Cricket Associations and considered part of the board’s official organisational structure.
Any organisation using the title or identity of a district cricket association without BCB approval, the board stressed, will not have official recognition.
