Couple killed as bus runs over Motorcycle in Jhenaidah

A husband and wife were killed after their motorcycle fell under a bus in Jhenaidah on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Tuli Khatun and her husband Sohel, residents of Borda village in Shailkupa upazila.

According to locals, the couple was travelling towards the bus terminal from Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital in the morning. Near the city’s bypass Gas Depot area, the motorcycle lost control while the couple tried to avoid a collision with a rickshaw coming from a side road.

The motorcycle fell onto the road and came under a Garai Paribahan bus travelling from Kushtia to Khulna.

Tuli died on the spot, while Sohel sustained serious injuries. Fire Service personnel and locals rescued him and took him to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, where he later died while undergoing treatment.

The bodies were sent to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.

Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Asaduzzaman confirmed the incident, saying police were sent to the scene after receiving the report.

He added that legal action would be taken if the family submits a written complaint.
