The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued an urgent directive outlining 14 criteria for selecting and rewarding the country’s best teachers.
The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Education, aims to recognise teachers for outstanding performance and support the development of their teaching and leadership skills.
In a letter issued on Monday (31 August), DSHE asked relevant authorities to select deserving teachers based on the criteria and arrange medals and awards for them.
The move follows Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry on 28 July, when he instructed officials to formulate and implement plans to improve the quality of education.
The criteria include teachers’ academic qualifications, teaching experience, subject knowledge, dedication and ability to use teaching aids effectively.
Assessment will also consider skills in preparing questions and evaluating answer scripts, as well as teachers’ ability to maintain cooperative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and authorities.
Other criteria include integrity, personality, enthusiasm, professional conduct, ability to take on challenges and effective use of technology in classrooms.
Contributions to textbook development, professional or research publications, innovative teaching initiatives and promotion of best practices will also be considered.
Teachers’ committee-management skills, financial discipline, classroom management and efforts to maintain green, clean and hygienic educational campuses are also among the criteria.
