The Election Commission (EC) has set a September 7 deadline for voters seeking to transfer their voter registration due to a change of residence ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The deadline was announced in a letter issued on Wednesday (September 2) and signed by Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, senior assistant secretary (Election Assistance-2) of the EC Secretariat.
According to the schedule, applications for voter transfer must be submitted by September 7, 2026. The deadline for issuing the applications is September 9, while the final date for disposing of the applications is September 10.
Voters wishing to transfer their registration to a new address must therefore submit their applications to the relevant election office by September 7. Election officials will then complete the issuance and disposal processes within the stipulated timeframe.
The EC said the schedule was set to facilitate voter transfers necessitated by changes of residence in preparation for elections to local government institutions.
The commission has instructed upazila and thana election officers and registration officers to take necessary steps to process the applications within the prescribed deadlines.
Regional election officers as well as senior district and district election officers have also been asked to monitor the process.
The EC described the matter as “extremely urgent” and directed all relevant officials to ensure that voter-transfer applications are processed in accordance with the schedule.
