LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC (LHB), a leading sustainable building materials manufacturer in Bangladesh, has launched the nationwide Holcim Structural Excellence Awards 2026 to recognise outstanding engineering achievements and contributions to the country’s construction sector.

The awards aim to provide a platform for recognising structural innovation, sustainable construction practices and visionary engineering talent.

LHB Chief Executive Officer Iqbal Chowdhury inaugurated the programme at a city hotel in the presence of civil engineers, academics and industry experts. The organisers said the competition will culminate in a grand gala event in Dhaka in January 2027, where the winners will be honoured.

Speaking at the launch, Chowdhury said engineers were “the true architects” of Bangladesh’s modernisation and resilient infrastructure.

“As Bangladesh advances towards smart, climate-resilient and sustainable urbanisation, recognising the brilliance and dedication of our engineering community is vital,” he said.

Through the awards, LHB aims to encourage innovation, promote green construction practices and empower both experienced professionals and emerging engineers to set new benchmarks in structural and environmental excellence, he said.

Chowdhury added that LHB would draw on its global expertise to connect Bangladeshi engineering talent with modern, world-class technologies.

The awards will feature four categories: High Performing Concrete Structure; Advanced Concrete Technology & Circularity; Legendary Structural Engineer; and Next Generation/Visionary Design.

The first three categories will have one winner each, while the Next Generation/Visionary Design category will recognise 10 emerging talents for innovation, technical expertise and future-oriented engineering leadership.

One of the winners from the four categories will also receive the prestigious Grand Winner title.

The competition will be conducted in five phases to ensure technical rigour and consistent evaluation.

The first phase, Launch & Call for Submissions, marks the official opening of the awards and the nationwide online registration portal.

In the second phase, Submission, participants will submit technical dossiers, structural drawings, sustainability impact reports and project verification documents.

The third phase, Shortlisting, will involve initial screening and preliminary evaluation to assess compliance and technical eligibility.

The fourth phase, Jury Screening & Final Selection, will include detailed evaluation, candidate presentations and independent scoring by an external jury panel.

The final phase, Winner Selection & Grand Gala Event, will determine the winners based on the final scores. The awardees will then be honoured at a grand gala in Dhaka in January 2027 with trophies and other accolades.
