Police have arrested a woman with two illegal foreign-made pistols, three magazines and seven rounds of ammunition in Bagha, Rajshahi.
The arrested woman was identified as Rozina Khatun, 45. Her husband, Md Rubel Hossain, 47, allegedly fled the scene after sensing the police raid.
A team of the Detective Branch (DB) conducted the raid in Alaipur Napitpara village around 8:30pm on Saturday as part of an anti-drug and anti-smuggling operation.
Police said they acted on a tip-off that Rubel and his wife had a large quantity of illegal firearms stored at their home. Rozina was detained when she tried to flee after noticing the police presence.
Based on information provided by her, police searched under a bed in the couple’s bedroom and recovered a shopping bag wrapped in white polythene. The bag contained two foreign-made pistols, three empty magazines and seven rounds of ammunition.
Rajshahi police spokesperson and Additional Superintendent of Police Sabina Yasmin said an operation was underway to arrest Rubel.
Rozina has a previous case filed with Bagha Police Station, while Rubel faces 15 cases—13 in different police stations in Rajshahi and one each in Narsingdi and Kushtia, police said.
