Police have arrested three people, including a husband and wife, for allegedly editing a young woman’s photo and circulating it in an obscene manner on Facebook in Saidpur, Nilphamari.
Saidpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim Reza confirmed the arrests on Monday.
The suspects—Sujon Mia, 25, Shakir Rana, 30, and Shakir’s wife Mahima Islam Shammi, 25—were arrested from their home in the Sahebpara Lichu Bagan area of Saidpur town on Sunday night.
According to the victim and the case statement, Sujon had allegedly been proposing to the young woman for a long time and later persuaded her to marry him secretly.
After the woman’s family learned about the marriage, both families attempted to resolve the matter. During this period, members of Sujon’s family visited the woman’s home and took her photograph.
The accused later allegedly edited the photograph and circulated it in an obscene manner on Facebook.
The woman’s father, Salam Reza, filed a case with Saidpur Police Station, following which police arrested the three suspects.
The OC said the case was filed under Sections 19(a), 25 and 27 of the Cyber Security Act. The accused were produced before a court on Monday and sent to jail.
