Ten Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated from India on Tuesday after completing jail terms for illegal entry, officials said.
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through the Tamabil land port in Sylhet around noon.
The handover took place at the Tamabil Immigration Police Checkpost in Gowainghat upazila in the presence of representatives from BSF, BGB and law enforcement agencies of both countries.
Tamabil Immigration Police In-Charge Sub-Inspector Md Bazlur Rashid confirmed that the returnees were later handed over to local police after completion of legal formalities.
“They were subsequently released into the custody of their respective family members,” he said.
According to immigration police sources, the individuals had entered India illegally through border areas in Chapainawabganj and Sylhet, including Kaliganj in Shibganj upazila and Gucchagram village in Gowainghat.
They were later arrested by the BSF and Indian police and produced before courts, which sent them to prison for illegal entry.
Following the completion of their sentences, the Bangladeshis were repatriated through official channels at the request of the Bangladeshi authorities.
