Secretaries have been instructed to strengthen field-level monitoring to address the ongoing electricity crisis and accelerate implementation of the government’s priority projects.
They have been asked to visit projects in their respective districts, identify implementation bottlenecks through on-the-ground assessment and discussions with local people, and take necessary measures to resolve the problems.
The directives were issued at a meeting of secretaries held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday, chaired by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani. The meeting began at 4:30pm and ended at 6pm, with 61 secretaries attending, according to Cabinet Division sources.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Nasimul Gani said the session mainly focused on internal administrative issues, improving efficiency and determining how government work could be carried out more effectively.
On the electricity crisis, he said priority projects are generally reviewed through structured discussions within the concerned offices. However, the latest meeting focused specifically on the ongoing power situation, immediate steps to address emerging problems and measures that could be taken from the following day.
The secretaries were instructed to take a more active role in monitoring priority projects at the field level.
Each secretary was asked to follow up on matters related to their respective districts and identify obstacles to project implementation by speaking directly with local residents.
They were also directed to work on improving efficiency and introducing necessary reforms in development and project implementation, and to report their findings so that the overall quality of government activities can be improved.
The meeting also discussed installing solar panels at government offices as part of efforts to address the electricity shortage.
The National Renewable Energy Development Strategy Paper 2026–2030 was also reviewed, alongside measures to make ongoing government activities more dynamic, public-oriented and effective.
Proposals from senior secretaries and secretaries on informal issues that could have a positive impact on the public were also considered, while several other administrative matters were discussed.
The meeting was the first gathering of secretaries since the new government took office, held 210 days after the government assumed office.
The secretaries’ meeting serves as an important forum for administrative coordination, bringing together secretaries of different ministries and divisions to discuss government policy decisions, development programmes, administrative priorities and inter-ministerial coordination.
