Hamas’s armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, has confirmed the death of one of its senior commanders in an Israeli airstrike.
In a statement, the group said Nail Atiyah Muhammad Abu Obeida, commander of its Rafah Brigade, was killed in an Israeli strike on Tuesday evening (September 15). The group described his death as a “cowardly assassination.”
Abu Obeida joined the al-Qassam Brigades in 1993 and had taken part in several major military operations, according to the statement.
The group said his blood had been shed alongside the Palestinian people in what it described as a struggle for liberation, adding that the fight would continue until “victory or martyrdom.”
The al-Qassam Brigades is the armed wing of Hamas.
