The body of a 13-year-old boy, the only child of a Comilla University teacher, was recovered from a jungle in the Kotbari area on Saturday, a day after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Apratim, a seventh-grader at Border Guard Public School and the son of Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the university’s Department of Bangla.
Police recovered his body from a jungle south of South Mor in Kotbari. Officers said he had sustained severe injuries to his head.
According to family members, Apratim left his home in Ward No 24 under Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station around 3:30pm on Friday, carrying his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends.
He did not return home. After searching for him in several areas, his father, KM Firoz Shahriar, filed a general diary at the police station that evening.
Police and family members continued searching for him, while investigators reviewed CCTV footage around Comilla University and examined his last known location.
Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Islam said there were signs of severe injuries to the boy’s head and that the incident was under investigation.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and trying to determine who may have been involved.
