Bangladesh were knocked out of the Asian Games cricket gold medal race after suffering a heavy 114-run defeat to India in the semifinal on Sunday.
Chasing 196, Nigar Sultana’s side were bowled out for just 81 in 15.4 overs.
Batting first after winning the toss, India posted 195-4, powered by a blistering unbeaten century from Shafali Verma. She smashed 100 off just 49 balls.
Smriti Mandhana also reached a milestone early in the innings, becoming the leading run-scorer in women’s T20 cricket. She surpassed New Zealand’s Suzie Bates after scoring eight runs.
Bangladesh’s chase got off to a disastrous start as Juwairiya Ferdous was dismissed in the second over. Sobhana Mostary, Nigar Sultana and Sorna Akter followed as Bangladesh slipped to 49-4 inside eight overs.
Dilara Akter top-scored for Bangladesh with 27 before falling with the score on 49.
Pacer Nandini Sharma then struck twice in successive deliveries to dismiss Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan, putting herself in line for a hat-trick. Sultana, however, denied her the feat.
Nandini and Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets each as India wrapped up a comprehensive victory.
India will face Sri Lanka in the gold medal match.
