A Dhaka court on Monday set October 22 for police to submit a probe report in a case filed against Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam and two others over the alleged abetment of his second wife Mariam Khatun’s suicide.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after accepting the first information report (FIR) filed in the case.
Police recovered Mariam’s hanging body from a ceiling fan inside a flat at NAM Bhaban on Saturday evening. The lawmaker and his first wife, Maksuda Islam, were taken into custody following the recovery.
Mariam’s father, SM Masum Billah, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Monday against Nazrul, Maksuda and Mariam’s maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman, accusing them of abetting her suicide.
Earlier in the day, another court placed Nazrul on four days’ remand and Maksuda on one day’s remand in the case.
