The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 600 bags of urea fertilizer worth an estimated Tk 21 lakh while they were allegedly being smuggled to Myanmar from Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.
The seizure was made around 12:30am on Thursday at Banshbaria Ghat following a tip-off, said Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon.
A team from Coast Guard Station Bhatiari intercepted two trucks and detained two people during the operation.
The seized fertilizer, weighing around 30,000 kg, was allegedly being transferred from a truck to a cargo boat reportedly bound for Myanmar.
The Coast Guard also seized the trucks used in the alleged smuggling attempt.
Legal proceedings are underway against the seized fertilizer and vehicles, as well as the two detainees, the Coast Guard official said.
